May 6:  Embracing Christian Sources, Perspectives, and Metaphors, A panel including Carol Sommer, Kara Stebbins, Matt Pianalto, and Bill Carey

Although many of us have Christian backgrounds and although Christianity is listed as one of our UU sources, we don’t focus on it very much; in fact some people have had such a negative experience with Christianity that they find it difficult to listen to others’ experiences with it.  Others may wish we would focus more on it, but fear speaking up about it. Today’s panel will be an opportunity for us to come together to respectfully listen as 4 UU’s reflect on 3 questions: (1) What was your early experience of Christianity? (2) How did your relationship to Christianity change over time? (3) What do you value most about Christianity now? Our panelists include Carol Sommer speaking on Gnostic Christianity, Kara Stebbins on Christian pop music, Matt Pianalto on Christian philosophy, and Bill Carey on being “between a rock and a hard place.” Please come prepared to encourage your fellow UU’s search for truth & meaning – and to offer thoughtful questions or comments in support of your own search.
