Calendar: Sunday Services begin at 10:45 AM
Sunday, October 4:
9:00 AM: Board meeting
10:45 AM: Children’s Religious Education (RE)
10:45 AM: “Unitarian Universalism and The End of Faith” Bob Stebbins; Sam Harris has argued brilliantly that the advance of science and technology make it no longer safe for humanity to allow revelation-based faith to determine social policy and human morality. Arguing that the basic teachings of Islam themselves are the root cause of terrorism, he shows that comparable problems previously developed from Christianity (crusades, witch-trials, Inquisitions). He makes less of Catholicism’s current impediments to population limitation—so necessary with the increasingly over-taxed world ecosystem—or U.S. backing of self-righteous Israeli claims that they have merely re-taken lands God promised them. If “faith” must end, what should be the role of Unitarian Universalism?
Sunday, October 11:
10:45 AM: “International Book Project”, Rachel Lewis, Executive Director; The International Book Project improves educational opportunities and fosters global friendships by providing quality books to schools, libraries and nonprofit organizations throughout the developing world. Each year, IBP ships over 150,000 books to more than 40 developing countries. IBP also coordinates “Books as Bridges”, an international pen pal and service learning program, which partners classrooms in Central Kentucky and classrooms in the developing world to improve writing skill and encourage international cultural awareness.
12:00 PM: Potluck after the service. Bring a dish and join the fun.
Wednesday, October 14:

10:45 AM: “Congregational Polity” Esther Hurlburt, Even though we may disagree with the Christian theology of the Puritans; they, our ancestors, set us free. The Cambridge Platform, of 1648 is the foundation of Unitarian Universalism self-governance. Thus, we have learned to “walk together freely in the Spirit of Love”.
Sunday October 25:
10:45 AM: Children’s Religious Education (RE).
10:45 AM: Annual Samhain Celebration, Join us as we celebrate the people and animals so important in our lives who have passed away within the last year.

Website Volunteer Needed
We need someone to volunteer to maintain our website. Even if you don’t have the skills now but want are willing to learn them please let David Oldham know of your interest at president@madisoncountyuu.org.
Safe Congregation Volunteers Needed
As Nancy Combs Morgan so eloquently stated in her recent homily, our Fellowship needs to move forward in becoming a “safe congregation”. This includes not only putting policies and procedures in place but examining and educating about the safety all members and friends feel in discussing sexual issues. If you would be willing to serve on the Fellowship Safe Congregation Development Team please contact David Oldham, president@madisoncountyuu.org.
Big words seldom accompany good deeds.
