What to Expect

COME AS YOU ARE:

Members and Visitors come to our fellowship each week dressed casually and comfortably.

BEFORE THE SERVICE:

You will be welcomed in the lobby by one of our rotating Greeters. They will provide you a program outlining that Sunday’s service. The Greeters can assist you in filling out a name tag along with a visitor’s form if you want to be placed on our mailing list. They will be happy to show you around the building and answer any questions you may have about our fellowship.

CHILDREN’S RELIGIOUS EDUCATION:

The children will start in the classroom at 10:45am when the service bell rings. They will not go to the Fellowship Hall with the adults. The exception to this is on the Sundays Esther Hurlburt is in the pulpit. On these third Sundays of the month, the children should stay with their parents until they are sung to their class.

For more information, please refer to the Religious Education section of this website.

SERVICE AND HOMILY:

At 10:45 am, the service leader will ring a bell Choir will begin singing, “Enter, Rejoice, and Come in.” This is the congregation’s signal to take a seat in the Fellowship hall. The service will begin with our service leader welcoming members and guests and providing our opening words.

We will then light our chalice, a well-known symbol of our denomination. The flaming chalice is comprised of a cup and flame. The cup represents religious community, while the flame represents ideas including the sacrificial flame, the flame of the spirit, and more. We will have a chalice reading at that time.

Our liturgy generally includes the singing of hymns, arrangements by the choir, readings, receiving of an offering, and a homily (or talk) followed by a question and answer session. This session ranges myriad topics from religion and spirituality to art to social action and justice. Our speakers come from diverse backgrounds and passionately share their expertise, interests or life journeys.

AFTER THE SERVICE:

We invite you to join members of our congregation for coffee and refreshments. Members are happy to talk with you, answer any questions you may have, and welcome you to our fellowship.
